Just a few days after hitting the live servers, the reworked Skarner is getting some major changes by Riot Games.
Skarner changes – buffs to jungle, nerfs to top lane
On April 5, Riot Games lead gameplay designer Phroxzon announced some micro patch changes for the reworked champion. The goal is to nerf the top lane version of the champion while buffing up its jungle iteration. According to Phroxzon, top lane Skarner is outperforming the jungle version when at low mastery while High mastery Skarner players seem to be performing well on the champion.
Phroxzon believes the champion is strong despite the low average win rates but they should go up as more players are getting acquainted with his new kit. The devs are also collecting players’ feedback to optimize some of his interactions, especially when it comes to his Qs and E. “We’re trying to thread the needle between impactful & adding sufficient counterplay. We want this ability to hit like a truck and having Skarner channel for a bit to let that be fair is a work in progress”, said Phroxzon.
With that in mind, Riot will be micro patching some changes for both roles, but more changes for the top lane version will be coming in the next patch 14.8.
Skarner number adjustments revealed
Below you can find the changes for Skarner, which should be already on the live servers:
Skarner
- Mana Growth: 60 ⇒ 45
- Passive Monster Damage Cap: 75-250 ⇒ 100-300
- Q Monster Damage Cap: 100/175/250/325/400 ⇒ 150/225/300/375/450
- W Mana Cost: 40/45/50/55/60 ⇒ 50/55/60/65/70
- E Cooldown: 24/22/20/18/16 seconds ⇒ 20/19/18/17/16 seconds
Overall, the goal is to increase his jungle clear while making his survivability a little bit lower given the W mana increase. We’ll monitor his win rates over the next few days but it should still take some time before we start seeing Skarner’s real power, especially in the jungle position.
