What is the best Pokemon Unite team?

It’s important to note that at the highest level of ranked play, and in pro play, Pokemon Unite makes use of a draft system. This means that no set of five Pokemon are the best ones to take into a lobby. At lower levels, where Pokemon can appear on both sides of the map, and teams are picked independently, this isn’t the case, however. For this list, we’ll cover the Pokémon seen at the top level and the frequent bans. Therefore, here are the best Pokemon to pick for a full 5 stack team.

Banned Pokemon in Unite

It is worth noting that Mewtwo has been banned in pro play since its release. Be it for being too new or too strong, Mewtwo has never hit the big stage. But that’s not the only place that it is barred from entering. Recent patches removed the EX Pokemon from selection for the Draft and therefore Ranked play.

Note: Only one EX Pokemon can be selected on a team. EX Pokemon on the whole have been removed from the Draft, though.

Currently, in drafts, each side gets 2 Pokémon to ban. Over the course of a best-of-three or five, the bans will likely change based on known playstyles of players. As a result, when trying to build the best Pokemon Unite team, you’ll have to be flexible. The most frequently banned Pokemon in the more recent tournaments have been:

  • Hoopa
  • Urshifu
  • Buzzwole
  • Leafeon
  • Eldegoss
  • Inteleon
  • Clefable
  • Dodrio

Theia Sky Ruins, the only competitive map in Unite, has two lanes and a central area most refer to as “Jungle” from other MOBAs like League of Legends or Dota. Thus, the standard composition of players is as follows:

  • Top: Two
  • Bottom: Two
  • Jungle: One

Best top laners in Unite

When he’s not instantly banned, Buzzwole is the superstar of the top lane. Thanks to his access to chain stuns, life drain, and invincibility periods, the all-rounder is a hyper carry.

Other good picks include Alolan Ninetails for its burst damage and status effect spread, Glaceon and Mew for securing objectives and contested farm from range, and Meowscarada for its glass cannon speed.

Best Bot laners in Unite

Urshifu of both types can put in work in either lane but its access to wicked blow for securing Regis after level 5 makes it a strong pick. For supports, take your pick of Clefable, Blissey and Eldegoss, whatever makes it through the ban. Trevenant, and Blastoise also shine brightly with their Crowd Control and Unstoppable moves.

Best Pokemon Unite Junglers

Your speedsters often show up here. Zoroark, Mimikyu, Glaceon, Dodrio, and Inteleon are often on the buff hunt. High mobility characters that can make fast rotations are ideal here, or late bloomer evolutions.

And that’s how you can assemble the best Pokemon Unite team. Of course, this list is subject to change as upcoming Pokemon are released into the game.
