What a day, what a tournament. The PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 is truly delivering, with huge matches living up to every ounce of hype. Today’s offerings were FaZe vs. Vitality and NAVI vs. G2, pitting some of the best Counter-Strike teams in the world against each other on the server.
With two spots in the Grand Final up for grabs, it was always going to be an uber-competitive day, with heroes and villains made in big moments. Let’s take a look back at all the action.
FaZe stun Major holders Vitality
FaZe vs. Vitality was a battle defined by its two veteran in-game leaders – karrigan and apEX. These two legends of the game came face-to-face once more, in an attempt to further secure their legacies on the biggest stage of all. What ensued was a staggering battle that went the distance in a 2:1 series, with the Inferno decider finally going the way of FaZe Clan.
On the day, Vitality’s stars just didn’t do enough to secure the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 Semi-Final win. Both Spinx and flameZ disappeared on the decider, making it impossible for Vitality to emerge victorious against a FaZe Clan that had everyone activated on the server. Spare a thought for apEX, who emotionally wore his heart on his sleeve after the result was confirmed. We wouldn’t expect anything less from one of Counter-Strike’s biggest and brightest personalities.
It’s difficult to say we learned anything new about either of these teams here. On another day, Vitality would arrive a little more awake to make this series even more of a contest, and we already know that rain is a totally different animal on the big stage. One thing we do know – this was another classic match between two titans of Counter-Strike.
jL takes NAVI to victory over G2
NAVI are back. In a match-up that once again killed NiKo‘s dream of becoming a Counter-Strike Major winner, jL led the way in a remarkable series that went the distance. The Lithuanian rifler was in immense form, carrying NAVI on the Ancient decider to secure their first Major final appearance since PGL Major Antwerp 2022. We mustn’t forget w0nderful, either. This young AWPer had enormous shoes to fill after replacing s1mple, and there’s no doubt he’s exceeded expectations. Now he’s in with a chance of matching his predecessor to become the winner of a Major.
For G2, there isn’t much to say that hasn’t already been said throughout the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024. NiKo was slightly improved in this series, but it’s m0NESY we feel sorry for. Time and time again, he showed why he’s one of the best young talents we’ve ever seen in the game, and he almost carried G2 over the line here. Just a little more from his teammates would have seen G2 progress to the Grand Final, but this was just not his time. Still 18 years old, we know this isn’t the last we’ll see of m0NESY in Major playoffs. Whether that’s for G2, is another question entirely.
We’re so impressed by this run from NAVI. Aleksib has once again defied the haters, and he’s now just one map away from becoming a Major-winning IGL. With the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 Grand Final, he has the chance to dispel his demons from the IEM Katowice Major 2019. There, he lost in the Final to prime Astralis, and in FaZe Clan, it’s a similar challenge standing in his way. If anyone can pull off the right calls, it’s Aleksib.
