It’s official: NAVI are your PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 champions, cementing themselves as the first-ever CS2 Major winners in the process. FaZe has to settle for second best in Denmark, watching on helplessly as NAVI’s international gamble finally delivers.
It’s been an astonishing few weeks of Counter-Strike action, culminating in the first three-map Major Grand Final since 2018. We’ve got all the talking points from NAVI’s legendary win over FaZe Clan, right here:
NAVI conquer FaZe demons
Both b1t and B1ad3 will have some very bad memories of a Major Grand Final against FaZe. They’re the only surviving members of the 2022 NAVI team that lost to FaZe at the PGL Major Antwerp Final, and today, they’ve managed to exercise some serious demons here. NAVI looked comfortable in Map 1 of the series, taking Ancient confidently. Still, FaZe are FaZe, and a 13:2 Mirage made for bad reading for NAVI as the series was tied up.
Going into the final map of Inferno, NAVI could have crumbled in yet another case of “so close, but yet so far” for this roster. Instead, they came onto Inferno in imperious form, eventually winning the map 13:3, taking home the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 trophy in the process. Crucially, b1t went absolutely nuclear, coming up huge after struggling throughout the rest of the tournament.
Any lingering memories of Antwerp for the NAVI org are well and truly gone. Their demons have been conquered, and NAVI are on top yet again, with their gamble of picking up an international roster paying off more than anyone could have ever imagined.
jL becomes CS2’s first Major MVP
Who’d have thought it? The player many thought was brought to NAVI “for the vibes,” takes home the very first Major MVP award in CS2. The truth is, jL has been a total revelation throughout the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024. We all knew he was a solid player, but his ability to turn it on in the biggest matches has proven essential in picking up NAVI’s first trophy since 2022.
Today, jL’s tournament is best summed up with a 1v3 clutch to secure the Map 1 win. Calm, collected, and clinical, jL has shown he has plenty more to offer than just vibes. As long as he keeps grinding, NAVI will keep winning, and we know that he’ll go on to cement himself as one of the best riflers in all of CS2.
w0nderful is wonderful
What w0nderful has achieved here is remarkable. After taking the place of his idol, s1mple, w0nderful had the biggest boots to fill in all of Counter-Strike. The 19-year-old AWPer has stepped up to the task remarkably, collecting in five months the prize that s1mple spent five years chasing in NAVI.
On the biggest stage of all, it would have been understandable if w0nderful faded into the background against FaZe. Instead, he stood tall, helping NAVI win rounds all by himself. It was another staggering performance from one of the biggest talents in the game. With the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 under his belt, w0nderful has the world of Counter-Strike at his feet. This guy is a winner, and we’re certain this won’t be his last taste of silverware in Counter-Strike 2.
Aleksib is a CS2 mastermind
ENCE, G2, NIP – all three teams have one thing in common. This trio chose to kick Aleksib as IGL, when he was never the problem. Without a trophy since 2019, it’s been one heartbreak after another for Aleksib, but NAVI never stopped believing in their Finnish leader. He has rewarded this faith with the biggest prize Counter-Strike can afford NAVI, showing everyone why Aleksib is, and always was, one of the best IGLs in the scene.
Now, Aleksib’s name and legacy are secure in the Counter-Strike history books. He has his Major, and no one can ever take that from him. Let’s hope this NAVI team stay together, and Aleksib can continue to add more trophies to silence the haters once and for all.
