Star Wars Outlaws was revealed by Ubisoft in June 2023. It’s an open-world adventure title that places players at the heart of the Star Wars universe, giving them the freedom to explore a vast environment. It’s a choice-and-consequence-driven game with a vast variety of gameplay mechanics: space combat, stealth, branching dialogue, and much more. Today, Ubisoft released a new trailer for the game – and along with that, the release date for the highly anticipated title.
There are expectations that this will be the biggest Star Wars game ever made, in terms of scope. There will be several planets featured in the game, including ones that have never been represented in mainstream media. It’s being developed by Massive Entertainment, a studio best known for The Division, an open-world, almost post-apocalyptic tactical shooter series.
When is Star Wars Outlaws Coming Out?
It was revealed by the recent story trailer that Star Wars Outlaws will be released on August 30, 2024. It’ll be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and it’ll start at $69.99 for the standard edition of the game. Following the release of the new trailer, the game’s special editions were outlined by Ubisoft, including:
- Gold Edition ($109.99), which comes with the season pass and early access (August 27)
- Ultimate Edition ($129.99), which features the Gold Edition, a digital art book, and two cosmetics bundles
Here’s the trailer that was released publicly by Ubisoft earlier today:
In Star Wars Outlaws, players assume control of Kay Vess, an outlaw (if that wasn’t already obvious) who is planning a monumental heist. Players will follow Vess’ journey as she ascends from being a simple scoundrel to a galaxy-raiding adventurer alongside companions and enemies out to stop her in her tracks.
Chronologically, Star Wars Outlaws sits between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and it has been confirmed that it’s canonical.
The story trailer serves as a wonderful reveal, with Ubisoft having written in plenty of references, stunning vistas, and tidbits to entice players to invest early in this project. Many are sceptical about how good it looks ‘because it’s a Ubisoft game’, but even today, The Division – which is Massive’s crowning glory – has a bustling community still backing it up. And nothing needs to be said about Star Wars – it’s one of the biggest franchises on Earth, and everything from major games to Star Wars Fortnite skins go crazy.
So, who knows? Star Wars Outlaws might just be a fantastic game.
