Tekken 8 Gets Controversial New Fight Pass

Gamer News

The Tekken 8 title has been one of the most fun fighting game releases of the year, and it’s getting its biggest update yet with the launch of Tekken 8 Fight Pass. This is the Tekken take on the Battle Pass. It’s a way for players to unlock extra items and goodies for completing quests. Although, it also ties in with increased monetization of the game. It’s been a bit of a controversial choice, but for many the Tekken 8 Fight Pass just brings it in line with other modern games.

What exactly are we expecting from the release of the Tekken 8 Fight Pass? The developers have used their recent updates to talk about what’s coming. The last Tekken patch added a new fighter, but we’ve had confirmation that monetization is coming more heavily. The Tekken 8 Fighters Pass will soon start to divide free and premium players, but is the pass going to make all that much of a difference to normal players?

What is the Tekken 8 Fighters Pass?

The Tekken 8 Fighters Pass has been announced as an upcoming feature to the game. It’s going to be a way to unlock more cosmetics. It works the same as most other Battle Passes, like the one in Street Fighter 6. By purchasing the premium tier, you can unlock tons more items provided you play enough to level through the pass. Free players will still get some rewards, but not as many.

These kind of Battle Passes monetize the game in a different way. Buying fighters is much more common in fighting game esports. Individual items aren’t really as important, partially just down to the culture for these games not putting much emphasis on them. This can mean a lot of players don’t really put much stock in a Battle Pass for a fighting game.

The version used by Street Fighter 6 has been fun, but even that isn’t really necessary. It doesn’t actually affect gameplay. Compared to games like Fortnite with skins, there’s especially less of an impact from buying the Battle Pass.

This Tekken Pass will likely include a few items that those into one side of the game or another will be particularly invested in. For a lot of players, it seems needless though. Although, given that it’s entirely voluntary there isn’t much harm in just skipping out if it’s not for you.
